Chief Executive Officer
After working as a Project Inception Manager for a number of years, Mark founded Distinction in 1984 and has since established the company into one of the largest and most respected contract furniture manufacturers in the UK. For 34 years Mark has given his heart and soul to the company, remaining hands on in projects from start to finish. He’s particularly active throughout the London showroom, always circulating the office to engage with the team.
Managing Partner of Distinction Drapes and Floors
Mark Coad started work in 1978 as an apprentice upholsterer and finished his apprenticeship in 1984 as a Master upholsterer. He moved on then to work for Shaw manufacturing as a trouble shooter on their projects in pubs, clubs and night clubs to control standards in the manufacturing and fitting. From 1984 to 1998 Mark worked in sales for Courts and Allied Carpets in the UK, during this time he married and 1999 set up his own business supplying upholstery and curtains to the leisure industry, during this time he supplied Accor, Hilton, Sheraton among others as a sub-contractor as well as many smaller companies within the industry. In 1995 Mark started supplying Distinction with curtains and upholstery and in 1998 amalgamated with Distinction and in time became the Chief Operating Officer of Distinction Group. With the purchase of Drapes and Floors Trading LLC, Mark has moved to become Managing Partner of Distinction Drapes and Floors and is the main Distinction Group representative in Dubai and the GCC.
If you’ll pardon the pun, Kersi is truly a part of the furniture at Distinction. Of his 19 years spent working in the contract furniture manufacturing industry, 16 of those have been spent with Distinction. From his beginnings as a Designer, through to his time as Sales Director right up to his current position as Managing Director, Kersi has played a fundamental role in the growth of the company throughout the years. Just as his career with Distinction exits it’s teen years, his daughter enters hers. He’s really got his hands full with two energetic kids at home. You’ll likely find him escaping to an Arsenal match on the weekends for some ‘peace and quiet.’
Art and Design are practically a part of Katherine’s genetic makeup. The design bug, passed down from her father Mark, led her to undertake a Masters in Design at the Royal College of Art V&A. After spending some time as a Research Coordinator for the Victoria and Albert Museum, Katherine joined Distinction in 2015. Since taking on the role of Projects Director she has been a force of power and positivity within the company, working hard to create beautiful furniture for hotels and projects around the world. She certainly earns a bottle of wine at the end of the week. In October 2017 Katherine welcomed her first child, the next generation of the Distinction family.
Sales and Marketing Director
In 2015, having grown up living and breathing everything furniture, Thomas gave in to the inevitable pull and joined the Distinction team. On top of his fantastic work as Sales and Marketing director, Thomas can also be credited with bringing Distinction into the 21st century thanks to his background in the technology sector. In his three years with Distinction he also founded Distinctify, a fresh retail brand bringing 5* furniture to the public. Thomas spends his weekends enjoying newlywed bliss. That is until Chelsea FC lose. The only way to cheer him up then is to coo over pictures of his new puppy, Maisie.
Projects and Design Director
Susan began her career with Distinction in 2014, after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Interior and Spatial Design at Chelsea School of Art & Design and working as a successful Project Manager for a time. Her expertise in hotel project coordination and management has been an invaluable asset throughout the company’s development. Susan became a member of the Director’s board in 2017 and continues to exceed expectations in her new role of Projects & Design Director. She has however, failed her New Year’s resolution to stop checking her emails at 6am. There’s always next year.
