Distinction Hotel Furniture was commissioned by Yianis Group to manufacture the full furniture package for their refurbishment of over 300 bedrooms at their 5* central London hotel. Distinction worked closely with Yianis Group to help bring their interior design to life, whilst selecting materials and finishes that were suitable to the contract hotel environment. Once the project had been awarded Yianis Group was appointed their own Project Coordinator from the Distinction team to manage to project from the initial stages, all the way through to installation. In total Distinction manufactured over 5000 pieces of furniture for this project including headboards and TV wall panels. Distinction also provided all lighting and over 2000 USB enabled socket faceplates and matching switches.
How Did The Process Work?
Distinction began by providing detailed quotations based on the interior designer specification provided and went through a process of value engineering and material selections with the client. Part of this was to ensure that finishes that were chosen were suitable for the hotel environment. Distinction proposed many solutions to increase the longevity of the product such as back painted glass tops to be stuck to the top of the high use veneered furniture to keep a consistent finish throughout the life of the furniture.
Once the project was won Distinction got to work engineering all pieces of furniture to ensure they were manufactured in the best, most robust way. Upon completion of engineering drawings and client for sign-off and subsequently sent to our partners for pre-production samples to be made. Our client enjoyed a visit to our factories in the far east to sign off each and every pre-production sample, making small changes to the items to make sure that they were perfect for mass production. After this the products were mass produced and shipped under the watchful eyes of our Hong Kong and China quality control and logistics offices.
The Final Steps
The products arrived at the port in plenty of time prior to installation and this was managed by our in-house logistics and installation team. Due to the unique positioning of the hotel, an internal staging area was created for us to be able to store products whilst there were being taken up to the floor that was being refurbished. Distinction installed all pieces of furniture over a 13 week period at a rate of 25 rooms per week, whilst the hotel remained at 84% occupancy.
