Crowne Plaza - Bahrain

The Brief

The Crowne Plaza is perfectly placed in the heart of the diplomatic area, and close to the newly opened Avenues mall. The hotel offers rooms that are smart and contemporary; making it one of the most flexible and unique destinations in Bahrain for both business and leisure. Distinction worked with the contractor Kontra to supply wardrobes, headboards, floating bedside units and minibars to the 138 bedrooms – over 1,200 pieces in total.

From Concept to Samples

Kontra, being the contractor on the project, engaged Distinction once full designs had been approved and signed off. From there it was a simple process of working closely with them to arrange approval of finish samples and drawings sign off prior to sample manufacture.

As the project was time sensitive Kontra gave Distinction the go-ahead to manufacture the bulk without seeing the pre-production samples.

The Finished Items

Distinction arranged for full shipment and delivery of items to the port in Bahrain. From there they were installed by Kontra with minimal snagging on any products.

Hotel Du Vin - Stratford Upon Avon

The Brief

Having worked with Frasers Hospitality many times in the past Distinction Group were very excited to be awarded this new development after Fraser’s acquisition of Malmaison and Hotel Du Vin brands. Distinction Group was tasked with manufacturing all of the casegoods and upholstery for the bedrooms of this mid-sized boutique hotel. The design included luxurious dark woods and tactile fabrics and fittings punctuated with gold accents, representing an exciting challenge.

From Concept to Samples

Hotel Du Vin engaged Distinction early on in the process, once the final interior design had been signed off. After this Distinction spent time producing shop drawings of all of the products and providing matched finish samples. During the process Distinction carefully engineered each product to ensure its suitability for the contract market and made sure to consult with the client to ensure that they were involved in the process from start to finish. Once finishes and drawings had been signed off Distinction manufactured pre-production samples.

The Finished Items

Though the Frasers team was offered an all expenses paid trip to Asia to inspect the pre-production samples prior to bulk manufacturing it was deemed unnecessary due to our track record with the client of delivering continually high-quality products to their developments. Distinction shipped all items to arrive perfectly within the project programme and they were all installed by our highly skilled installation team. The completed hotel has enjoyed significant success, rising to 10th out of 30 hotels within Stratford Upon Avon only months after opening.

The Brief

Distinction Hotel Furniture was approached by owner Arora Group to help create The Tea Salon, an area that bridges the hotel’s two restaurants and bars providing the perfect place for a meeting or break at Heathrow. Distinction provided all of the loose furniture within the project including stone-topped tables, upholstery, dining chairs and bar stools.

What Was The Process?

Distinction began by providing detailed quotations based on the interior designer specification provided and went through a process of value engineering and material confirmation with Arora Group.

Once the project was won Distinction got to work engineering all pieces of furniture to ensure they were manufactured in the best, most robust way. Upon completion of engineering drawings and client sign-off, the products were sent to our partners for pre-production samples to be made. On this occasion, our client was unable to fly to our factories. As a result of our previous work with the client, we were trusted to manufacture the items without pre-production sample sign-off. Nevertheless, the client was provided with full quality control reports at multiple times during the production process.

The Final Steps

Distinction fitted installed the furniture over a week, ensuring minimal disruption to the day to day running of the hotel. The hotel had plenty of space to allow for the unloading of the furniture within its loading bay without having to create a separate staging area, this made installation quick, efficient and minimised handling.

The Brief

Distinction worked closely with procurement company, Room Facilities and the owner Criterion Capital in furnishing all 95 hotel rooms with headboards, wardrobes, mirrors, upholstery and other products. Distinction also manufactured custom tiled vanity units for all of the bathrooms in the UK. Once the project had been awarded Room Facilities & Criterion Capital were appointed their own Project Coordinator from the Distinction team to manage to project from the initial stages, all the way through to installation.

What Was The Process?

Distinction was initially approached by Room Facilities to provide a detailed quotation for the interior design scheme provided by Criterion Capital. Once the project was awarded the process of engineering and drawing began. Throughout this process, Distinction worked with the client and the interior designers to make small changes to the design to increase the appearance and durability of the products without altering the design intent.

The client was unable to visit our factories on this occasion so Distinction manufactured a full sample room and shipped it over to the UK for approval prior to mass production. Logistics and quality control was managed by our Hong Kong and China offices, overseen by the Project Coordinator and executive team in the London office.

The Final Steps

The products arrived in the UK in plenty of time prior to installation and this was managed by our in-house logistics and installation team.  Due to the unique positioning of the hotel, we had to unload containers into the basement of the nearby Trocadero, another Criterion Capital building, and move products from there up to the rooms when ready. We worked with multiple trades on site as everyone put in maximum effort to ensure the product could be pulled in within the specified programme. The result is a truly unique hotel with an interior that makes the most of the historic theatre district it sits within.
